ADELANTE!: A gathering of Chicanas, Latinas and Native Women in Science, Mathematics and Engineering seeks to add to the number of Chicanas, Latinas and Native Women to the rolls of graduate programs in math, science and engineering and ultimately to the numbers of faculty in these fields. This gathering will bring together established women in these areas with promising young scholars and undergraduate students for a 3-day summer institute. ADELANTE! will integrate its participants into the 19th annual Mujeres Activas en Letras Cambio Social Summer Institute, to be held at the University of California, Santa Cruz campus in August 2-5, 2006. The program will consist of parallel concurrent sessions, Friday and Saturday (August 4th & 5th), to the Institute where senior faculty members in the targeted fields–Math, Science and Engineering–will offer advice, present their current research and career achievements, as well as, speak about the process for achieving a graduate degree in math, science and engineering. In short, they will serve as role-models and mentors to the participants who will be drawn from institutions of higher learning. We are excited to be able to offer funding (registration, travel & lodging) for participants of ADELANTE! To apply for sponsorship, please complete the Nomination/Registration form and send it to malcs_ucsc@yahoo.com. Spread the Word!!!
